A new version of the theme builder is available in beta test. Please report me bugs and comments at

New theme builder preview

This new version has been designed to achieve more professional results. It comes with a banner designer to create and personalize your own banner in an easier way with drag and drop support.

There is some limitations however. This version is for test purpose only and there is very few elements to build your template yet.

IE6 users won't benefit of the banner designer because of well known PNG transparency bug in IE. Generally speaking use Firefox or Chrome for better performances with doTemplate.

February 4, 2009 Coming soon - the new doTemplate release

I'm working on the next doTemplate release that hopefully will be online by April 2009. This release will be easier to use and will generate even more professional looking themes. Let's list some of the upcoming features:

• Banner builder: An easy way to personalize the banner by uploading and positioning your own background and foreground images as well as your own logo. Banner images will be resizable. It will be possible to change the opacity and fading for quite good looking results.
  
  
• Styles library: Most of the customizable areas will provide a style library. For example you will have access to a library of page background styles to choose from.
  
  
• Layouts: A larger choice of 1, 2, 3 columns layouts, with right/left positioning.
  
  
• Container width: What if you could choose the width of the container from 700 px up to 1100 px ?
  
  

I will also introduce some premium options. Donations are helpful but very few of you actually donate. DoTemplate will remain free for most of the key features. The mid-term goal is to provide a platform where designers can create and sell their templates at low price. Another goal is to generate templates compatible with popular blogging and CMS platforms (Blogger, Wordrpress, Joomla...). By next summer!

The new doTemplate is online and comes with some great new features !

• Banner uploader: For all templates you can now upload your own banner. Design your banner ( and logo ) using your favorite image editor and simply upload it to your template. So far it supports PNG, GIF and JPEG images.
  
  
• Banners library: You can also pick a banner from a growing library of banners available for each template.
  
  
• Title fonts library: Check out the new fonts chooser to customize your title.
  
  
• Menus styling: For the navigation menus, you can now choose among a growing choice of styles.
  
  

This new version is in beta. Please report me any issues you would encounter, especially for the banner uploader. Generally speaking, all comments are welcomed.

TODO list

I'm currently working on new functionalities, part of the following TODO list.

• Banner uploader
• Banner image library
• Extended title font choice
• Logo uploader
• CMS / hosting features

Banner uploader/library will be available by the end of this month. Later I will introduce some basic content management features and you will be able to create and host a complete website, built with doTemplate. So please come back soon to discover these new features.

I've been quite busy on these tasks, and haven't added new templates for some time now, but be sure I'm working on it.

2008 comes with two new corporate templates inspired from Styleshout 'higher ground' theme. I hope you'll like it. I wish I could add more templates but I'm quite busy on some other tasks. It's up to you to support my job with your donations, so I can allow more time to enrich the catalog.

Happy new year ! It's been now 4 months the site has been launched and we reached 40000 visitors to end 2007. An average of 10000 visitors monthly. Thanks to all of you.

Two new templates added with nice glossy and stripes effects on the banner. Some cool functions come with these new templates. You can now remove the banner image to add your own once template downloaded. You can also choose the title and slogan font more easily with a drop down list. Enjoy...

New logo and new branding ! I spent some time to change the look of the web site and correct some bugs. I also proceed some code refactoring for better performances. You noticed, did you ? Sorry if the new layout comes with more ads. This should partially pay the hosting fees.

I added 2 new templates inspired from Styleshout PixelGreen. Here it's a 2 columns design, with a large banner image. You can easily change this image once template downloaded.

I'm not fulltime available for that but I try to add one template a week.

doTemplate.com highlighted by Google, at the Google developer network portal in featured projects. doTemplate actually uses GWT, a great ajax library from Google that really boost your productivity when developing web sites.
I was not expected the resulting trafic from Google. The web server memory was not tuned to handle so much sessions. It's better now.

doTemplate.com launch ! No big deal, no business plan done. I just coded my ideas and put the result online. It is ( was ) not supposed to be a startup !
